Residential Intermediate CampsResidential Intermediate Camps

The residential programmes at the MWS Montreal Camps operate 7 days/week with a full schedule of classes, excursions and activities. Students are supervised on a 24-hour basis by the MWS camps staffs.

Students enrolled in the residential programmes live in the residences of McGill University, in downtown Montreal. The residential programmes are all-inclusive. Accommodation, meals, excursions, classes, activities, transportation, laundry service, medical insurance and full supervision are all included.

Residential students enjoy the full “overnight camp” experience. They “live, breathe, eat and sleep” camp throughout their stay. Some of the most memorable camp experiences are those involving time spent together with friends and counsellors at the end of a busy day.

Residential students are encouraged and expected to follow a level of responsibility in their daily actions.

Some of the most memorable events for the residential students are the full day excursions to Quebec City and Ottawa. The excursions are filled with great tours and integrated workshops that complement the classroom study at the camps. Animated walking tours of “Vieux Quebec” and a tour of the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa are just some of the highlights!

Intermediate Day Camps

Every Wednesday campers enjoy full day excursions. There are no formal classes scheduled on these days. The day ends at 9:00 pm and dinner is included for all campers.

All activities, classes and meals are held together with students in the residential programmes.

ClassesClasses

Our French classes are taught by fully certified, professional teachers who have training and experience in working with language learning students.

Lessons are designed specifically for the Intermediate Camp age students and focus on communication and participation. Our classes are based on student-centered learning and integration.

Intermediate Camp students have 3 hours of classes, 5 days per week. The classes alternate weekly between the mornings, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and the afternoons, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

In-class learning is enriched with audio-visual material and visits to libraries.

Classes are divided according to the level of French knowledge and age of the students in the Intermediate Camp. On average, there are 12 students per class (with a maximum of 16).

Our teaching programme also offers:

  • First day evaluation and interview to determine level of French
  • Weekly report cards on student progress and MWS certificate upon completion

The activities include:

Weekly, all three camps participate in Integration Events. These events are specially selected and planned to include campers in all three camps (and age groups). Integration Events help create a “family” atmosphere at the camps and provide an opportunity for all ages to interact with each other.

Integration events include:

Our staff ensures that campers are occupied, having fun and learning all the time. The Intermediates profit from a daily schedule designed to help them interact with fellow campers and counsellors.

One of the highlights for the Intermediate Camp is a visit to Voiles en Voiles, an aerial adventure course theme park located in the Old Port of Montreal. An amazing, active experience involving Pirate and Royal ships from the 18th century! History comes alive in physical and educational activities overlooking Vieux Montréal!

Staff

In the Intermediate Camp, there is 1 staff member for every 8 campers. The campers are supervised at all times by the camp counsellors and directors.

Intermediate Camp counsellors are French-speaking university students (minimum 18 years old). They have been carefully selected for their character, sense of responsibility, flexibility and colorful personality.

Our counsellors have experience working with young people and understand the wide range of demands for 11 to 13 year olds; some campers need extra attention, others may need responsibility. All are treated with respect.

Campers are assigned to counsellor groups according to age and session dates.

Our residential campers and counsellors live in the same residences, in rooms located next to each other.

Basic medical services are handled by the camp infirmary or the local medical clinic located just a short walk from the camps. The McGill University medical complex and Montreal Children’s Hospital handle all other medical services for our campers.
